The Aber typeface started from a simple but strong idea — an initiative by Lasko Dzurovski to create a new Macedonian Cyrillic font in 31 days, one letter at a time.
While similar challenges exist in a broader context (such as “31 days / 31 letters” type design initiatives), this was a valuable local impulse — focused on Macedonian Cyrillic.
A modulated sans-serif with visible stroke contrast, bordering on a serif sensibility without actual serifs.
The initial inspiration for the letter “Aa” came from older Macedonian books.
The goal was to preserve that character, while translating it into a contemporary, usable digital typeface — with particular attention to correct Macedonian Cyrillic forms.
The process was open — shaped through comments, suggestions and ongoing adjustments.
Special thanks to Lasko Dzurovski for the initial idea, motivation and generous support throughout.
The typeface is far from perfect, but it is alive and usable.
And most importantly — it is made to be used.
Aber is free for both personal and commercial use.
If you use it, we’d love to see where it ends up.
And if it brings you something more — a coffee will do
